How to Replace the Power Steering Pump on a BMW 1 Series

Model: BMW Serie 1 E81, E82, MK 1, E87 - Years 2004-2013

If the steering wheel rotation has become particularly heavy, almost impeded, but improves slightly when accelerating, it means that the pump that pressurises the power steering fluid has failed. Since it is driven by the auxiliary belt, its operation depends on the engine's RPM. To replace this pump, lift the vehicle and detach the auxiliary belt, disconnect the oil inlet and outlet pipes, and unscrew the pump's mounting bolts. Then transfer the support bracket and pulley from the old pump to the new one and proceed in reverse for installation, also restoring the oil level: it is recommended to flush the system by completely replacing the power steering fluid.
