How to Remove the Steering Wheel from the BMW 1 Series

Model: BMW Serie 1 E81, E82, MK 1, E87 - Years 2004-2013

To remove the steering wheel from the BMW 1 Series, disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent the airbag system from activating during removal. Insert a flat-head screwdriver into the side holes of the steering wheel to activate the internal mechanism, disconnect the connector, and remove the central hub. Using a Torx T20 key, unscrew the nut located at the back of the airbag to remove the steering wheel. To install the steering wheel, screw the nut back on with the Torx key and connect the airbag to the connector. Push the central hub back into the steering wheel and reconnect the negative terminal for battery operation.
