How to Change the Steering Wheel of a BMW 1 Series

To change the steering wheel of a BMW 1 Series, position the wheels straight and disconnect the battery. At the back of the steering wheel, locate the access holes for the airbag retaining springs and insert a screwdriver to release them, then remove the airbag module and disconnect the connectors. Using the appropriate socket, unscrew the central bolt that secures the steering wheel to the column, marking its position to maintain alignment. Pull the steering wheel towards you to remove it. Place the new steering wheel onto the shaft, tighten the central bolt to the correct torque, reconnect the airbag connectors, and reinsert the module until it clicks into place.
