How to Remove the Steering Wheel on BMW 1 Series

To remove the steering wheel from your BMW 1 Series, follow the detailed instructions below. Always remember to disconnect the battery before starting, for safety reasons.

Use a small flathead screwdriver and insert it into the two holes on either side of the steering wheel. Pry to release the airbag and disconnect the connector.

Now you can disconnect the wires inside the steering wheel and unscrew the bolts to completely remove the airbag. Once the airbag is removed, unscrew the screws that hold the steering wheel in place.

Pull the steering wheel out of its position. If you only need to replace some parts of the steering wheel, proceed with removing the affected parts; otherwise, if you are installing a new steering wheel, follow the reverse procedure for installation.

If you wish to customise the steering wheel, you can apply 3D carbon vinyl to the steering wheel frame to cover any defects or damage to the surface.
