BMW Serie 3 - Video tutorial

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006
Part: Brake discs
Operation: Disassembly and replacement of brake discs and pads

Raise the car on a lift or on suitable car stands and remove the wheel where the repair is to be carried out. To remove the disc fixing pin, it is suggested to block the rotation of the disc itself by inserting a screwdriver or an Allen key into one of the self-ventilating holes of the disc and placing it in contact with the brake caliper: at this point unscrew the fixing pin of the disc. Subsequently, unhook the pad retaining spring, remove the protective caps of the caliper fixing pins and unscrew the pins in order to remove the caliper. Also disassemble the pins of the caliper support and remove it together with the disc. Clean the hub from any residual oxide present and apply the new disc by tightening the relative fixing pin. Using a clamp, retract the brake caliper piston to house the new pads; refit the caliper support, apply the new pads to the caliper and tighten the relative fixing pins; finally reposition the sealing spring and the protection caps. Proceed in the same way on the other wheels, taking care to connect the wear sensor correctly, if present, by properly fixing the relative cable.

Handbrake adjustment on Ford Ecosport

First remove the plastic profile at the base of the gear lever. To do this, slightly widen the side edges and carefully lift it to release it. There is no need to remove it completely, just move it forward to avoid bother. Now remove the plastic center console around the handbrake by first working from the rear to release it and lifting it until the brake lever passes. Also in this case it is not necessary to remove it completely but, paying attention to the connected cables, it can be stowed in front of the passenger seat. At this point we notice that at the base of the handbrake lever, on the front, we find a nut. By acting on it, with a 10 wrench, we can adjust the brake force, increasing it by turning the nut clockwise, or decreasing it by turning it counterclockwise. Once adjusted, the center console can be repositioned first, pressing lightly to engage it, and then the profile of the gearbox base.
