Let's see how to reset the service light on a BMW X5 E70: turn on the ignition, and on the left side of the dashboard, find the button with the tachometer icon (BC button). Press and hold it for a few seconds until a menu appears on the screen showing various maintenance items with their expiration alerts.

Once in the menu, release the button, then press it repeatedly to scroll through the service items until you reach the one you want to reset, which shows "--" or "expired". When the item is highlighted, press and hold the button again; the screen will display "reset?". Keep holding until you see the message change to "reset" and the countdown reset to the full value.

Repeat for each item that needs resetting, and then turn off the ignition.
