How to Change the Shift Knob on a BMW X5

This guide shows you how to replace the automatic shift knob on your BMW. First, position the gear lever in neutral (N) and then turn off the vehicle. Now, grasp the shift knob and pull it firmly upward to detach it from the shaft (during this operation, remember to hold down the black lever on the knob). Once removed, you can replace it with the new one by inserting the knob's pin back into the shaft; to secure the knob, give it a sharp tap until you hear a locking click.
