Replacing the BMW gear knob is a simple and quick task that you can do yourself. To replace the knob, get inside the vehicle and turn the base of the knob counterclockwise. Then, pull firmly upwards on the knob while keeping the gear mechanism steady with your non-dominant hand. After removing the knob, insert the new one, position it centrally, and press down to fit it into the mechanism, then rotate it clockwise. Before hitting the road, check the correct functioning of the knob by engaging the gears.
