The starter motor on the BMW E36 (316 gasoline) is accessible but requires removing the intake manifold. Before you start, disconnect the battery. The motor is secured with two screws (one underneath, one at the back) and a centering pin that can make extraction difficult. The replacement part is available on eBay with the code 168557912730, priced at $76.43 with free shipping. After removing the screws and the pin, pull out the old starter motor. Install the new one by inserting the centering pin and tightening the screws. Reconnect the power cable (positive) and the battery. The video also shows a common mistake: forgetting to connect the battery cable to the starter motor. Always check all connections before starting.
