Replacing the Crankshaft Position Sensor

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003
Part: Crankshaft position sensor

Locate the position of the sensor on the engine block. The sensor is connected to the control unit via a cable that must be disconnected from the sensor by pressing the two side clips of the connector. Once the sensor is free, use a wrench to remove it by loosening the mounting screw; perform this operation with utmost care. Install the new sensor, making sure to apply some thread-locking fluid to the mounting screw; this prevents the screw from loosening due to vibrations. Reconnect the connector carefully and check for proper operation.
