Replacing Front Brake Discs and Pads

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006

Lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift and remove the front wheels. Disconnect the retaining spring of the pads and unscrew the caliper mounting bolts (it may be helpful to hang the caliper from the shock absorber with a spring).
Then remove the caliper bracket to allow for the subsequent removal of the disc. Once the bracket is removed, unscrew the disc mounting bolt and take it off the hub. Clean the hub of any oxidation residue and apply grease to protect it from further oxidation. Install the new disc and the caliper bracket. Retract the caliper piston by inserting a new set of pads and the retaining spring. If necessary, also replace the wear sensor.
