How to Replace the Oxygen Sensor

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003

One of the components of the onboard system is the oxygen sensor. If the sensor fails, the check engine light turns on and stays on until the sensor is replaced. To perform this operation, lift the car so you can safely work underneath, locate the exhaust sensor behind the catalytic converter on the exhaust, disconnect the wiring using your hands, and then remove the sensor with an oxygen sensor wrench. It is preferable to apply an anti-seize compound to the threads of the oxygen sensor. You can then screw the replacement sensor back in place.
