Instructions for Adding a Rear Brake Light

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003

The rear light has the original brake light on the outer part of the light itself, while the inner part, facing the hood closure, is a simple reflector but can easily be converted into an additional light. You need to disassemble the socket and the light to perform this modification. You will notice that the socket already has a spot for the bulb corresponding to the reflector, while the light has a plastic cap that prevents passage: you need to connect the positive of the brake bulb with that of the newly added bulb (just bridge them with a piece of wire) and drill a hole in the light with an appropriately sized hole saw. By pressing the brake pedal, the external brake light and the internal one will turn on.
