Removing Hubcaps Without a Special Tool

Model: BMW Serie 5 E39 - Years 1995-2003
Part: Wheel rim

Depending on the type of car and wheels, some vehicles come from the factory with wheel rims that have visible lug nuts, while others are covered by a central hubcap. Obviously, if there is a hubcap, the original equipment of the vehicle includes a special tool to remove it in case of a flat tire, for example. If you have purchased a used car that is missing the original tool kit or have lost the tool, you can try to loosen the hubcap with a large pair of pliers, such as those used for oil filters. Just ensure a firm grip to rotate the fake lug nut a quarter turn and then remove the hubcap.

Use a socket wrench to unscrew the shock absorber mounting bolts (engine bay), lift the car on a column lift and remove the front wheel. Unscrew the shock absorber mounting bolts at the wheel hub (detach the brake line clips with a screwdriver). Unscrew the bolts on the side, then remove the shock absorber from its housing (place a support under the bar). Compare the old part with the new one and prepare for installation. Fit the new shock absorber to the car, working in reverse order.
