A malfunctioning smart key for your BMW X1 does not always mean you need a new one; often, the issue is simply a dead battery. Here’s how to replace it. First, locate and press the small button on the side of the cover. Remove the physical key inside and then fully open it using a flathead screwdriver (or the emergency key itself). Finally, replace the button battery and reassemble the cover, making sure to insert the physical key back inside.
