To replace the shift knob on a BMW Z4, grasp the knob while securely holding the leather boot underneath. The two parts are not directly connected, so you need to pull the knob upward to detach it from the top of the shift lever and remove it from the boot.

Once the old knob is removed, you can install a new replacement: it should be positioned at the end of the lever to snap into place. Finally, check that the piece functions correctly.
