Replace the Valve Stem Seal

Model: BMW X3 MK 1, E83 - Years 2003-2010
Part: Engine

The following guide provides some simple tips on how to correctly replace the valve stem seal on your car. With the right tools and a bit of mechanical knowledge, this task is fairly easy to perform. This replacement can be done with the engine installed; there is no need to disassemble any mechanical parts of the vehicle. Once you open the hood and secure it with the prop rod, you can proceed with the operation by removing the valve cover. Using a wrench, you can remove the spring that acts as a compressor on the valves and unscrew the pins located on the valve stem. Very slowly, you can then remove both the valve and the seal that needs to be replaced.
