To reset the ECU of the BMW X5, you need to completely disconnect the car battery, removing it from its housing in the engine compartment. Next, connect the positive terminal of the battery to another battery: this will ensure that any residual energy stored in the battery is removed, leaving it completely drained. In this way, the fully drained battery can be reinstalled in the car, and since it will be devoid of energy, all errors in the ECU will be cleared, effectively resetting it.
