Alternator Replacement Instructions

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006

To replace the alternator, first remove the air filter housing (air box) and the cooling fan: you will need a special wrench to loosen the nut securing the fan to the crankshaft pulley; once access to the alternator is clear, loosen the tensioner of the auxiliary belt to remove the belt itself and remove the alternator mounting bolts, disconnect the cables and connector attached to it, and take it out of its location; then proceed in reverse for the installation of the new (or possibly refurbished) one, considering whether to replace the belt as well.
