How to Replace the Oxygen Sensor

The oxygen sensor is a device that monitors the presence of oxygen in the exhaust gases of a motor vehicle. This sensor produces an electric voltage in relation to the amount of oxygen present in the exhaust gas. The sensor is located on the exhaust pipe upstream of the catalytic converter. The replacement procedure takes only a few minutes. First, remove the negative battery cable, then use a jack to lift the vehicle, locate the sensor, and disconnect the electrical connector. Use a wrench to remove the sensor from the exhaust pipe and the same tool to assist in installing the new sensor.
