How to Replace the BMW E90 Remote Key Battery

Replacing the battery (model CR2032) of the remote key for the BMW 3 Series E90 (this is done the same way on many other BMW models) is extremely simple: start by extracting the metal key (commonly called the blade) from the back of the remote by pressing the release buttons to detach it. At this point, locate the slot to insert the tip of a small screwdriver and pry to release the cover of the battery compartment, remove the old battery, clean the contacts of any oxidation, and insert the new one before reapplying the cover and the blade.
