The battery that powers the key fob for the BMW X5 will deplete over time, and a warning light will appear on the instrument panel to remind you to replace it to maintain functionality. Take the key fob and turn it to expose the back.

Using the lever at the bottom, detach the silver part of the shell. With a flathead screwdriver, remove the compartment that holds the battery.

Take out the old battery and replace it with a new CR2032, ensuring correct polarity. Place it back in its slot and close the shell securely.
