How do you adjust the handbrake of the BMW 1 Series?

In order to adjust the handbrake of the BMW 1 Series, you need to pry with an object to detach the leather covering that wraps around the base of the handbrake lever: once this covering has been removed, you will be able to locate the spring that regulates the intensity of the handbrake. At this point, it will be possible to adjust the nut located at the base of the spring: by tightening the nut, the handbrake will be harder and the lever will have a shorter travel. Conversely, loosening the nut will reduce the hardness of the handbrake and lengthen the lever travel.
