The "ERROR 89" code on Chevrolet vehicles is used to indicate a malfunction in the vehicle's thermostat. To resolve this code, it is necessary to replace the thermostat. Once this is done, the code should turn off without any issues when the vehicle is turned on. To do this, open the front hood and remove the thermostat by unscrewing the fixing nut and disconnecting it from its connector. Take a new thermostat and place it in its housing, then connect the connector and tighten the nut. Turn on the vehicle to test the thermostat's functionality. If everything works perfectly with the ignition on but the code remains fixed on the display, it may be necessary to perform a reset using a diagnostic computer.
