How to test the fuel level indicator

The video gives an indication on how to trick the fuel gauge, to understand if the fuel gauge (which is shown as empty) is actually empty or - as the YouTuber suspects - not. A diode is used in the tank connector plug, in order to understand if the issue is with the float that measures the fuel or with the gauge itself, which is located on the instrument panel. The YouTuber disconnects the tank connector, inserts the diode into the terminals of the connector: if the gauge moves the issue is with the float, otherwise the issue is with the instrument panel. In the absence of a diode, a short circuit test can be performed. With the car turned off, disconnect the tank connector, connect the two main wires of the connector together with a piece of wire and start the car. If the gauge goes to "full" the issue is with the float. If it remains on "empty" the issue is with the instrument panel.
