How to Change the Oil and Oil Filter on a Chevrolet Equinox

To change the engine oil and oil filter: Start by opening the hood, removing the engine oil filler cap, and raising the dipstick. Lift the vehicle, and near the oil pan, locate the "engine oil" label. Unscrew the oil drain plug and place a container underneath to drain the oil. Once all the oil is drained, reinstall the plug and use a wrench to unscrew the oil filter, allowing the oil from the filter to drain. Lubricate the oil filter gasket with new oil, and reinstall the oil filter. Lower the vehicle and pour the specified quarts of oil into the oil filler hole as recommended by the manufacturer. After adding the oil, remove the dipstick, clean it, reinsert it, and check the oil level to see if a top-off is necessary. The operation is complete.
