How does the active hood system work?

In this video, we see how the active hood system works, here on a Citroen C6, but the method is the same on all models: it is an innovation specifically designed to protect pedestrians in the event of a collision. The car is equipped with sensors positioned in the front that constantly monitor the surrounding environment. When these sensors detect an impact with a pedestrian, a signal is sent to the vehicle's control unit; the control unit, in turn, activates a mechanism that unlocks the hood hinges. Thanks to preloaded springs, the hood quickly lifts, creating a larger space between the engine and the outer surface of the hood itself. This creates a larger deformation zone, which allows for more effective dissipation of the impact energy, reducing the risk of serious injuries for the pedestrian and protecting their vital organs.
