How to replace the internal radiator and pipes of the Fiat Panda.

Model: Fiat Panda 169, MK 2 - Years 2003-2012
Part: Heater core

On your Fiat Panda, replacing the cabin radiator and heating hoses is a task that involves the coolant circuit and requires attention to avoid leaks and air in the system. Always start with a cold engine, protect the interiors as fluid may spill out, and disconnect the battery if you need to work near wiring/dashboard; if the vehicle has airbags in the area, wait a few minutes after disconnecting before proceeding.

Begin by safely managing the coolant: relieve the pressure in the circuit only when cold and prepare a container for the coolant. It is advisable to drain the circuit enough to prevent the internal radiator from leaking fluid into the cabin when disconnecting the connections. In the engine compartment, locate the two heating hoses that run through the fire wall towards the dashboard, remove any coverings that obstruct access, and remove the clamps; when you pull out the hoses, temporarily cap them or orient them to limit spillage.

To access the internal radiator from the cabin, remove the necessary parts of the console/lower plastics and clear the area around the heating unit. The goal is to reach the cover or the seat of the radiator in the HVAC body, open the access, and pull out the heat exchanger in a linear manner, without forcing the hoses or supports. Once extracted, check for any remaining gasket fragments and clean the seating area, also checking the condition of the sealing foams and support points to avoid future air leaks or drips.

Before installing the new radiator, verify the compatibility of the replacement part and replace any gaskets/O-rings if the system requires them. Insert the radiator into its seat while maintaining proper alignment, close the housing, and reassemble the removed parts in the cabin, ensuring that wiring and controls are not under tension or pinched. In the engine compartment, reattach the hoses, reposition the clamps evenly, and check that the routing does not create bends or abrasions.

Once the work is completed, fill the circuit with the appropriate coolant for the Panda and perform the bleeding procedure according to the vehicle's specifications, setting the heating to maximum and starting the engine until the temperature rises steadily. During this phase, check for any drips in both the engine compartment and the cabin, verify that the heating is blowing hot air, and recheck the coolant level after the first operating cycle.
