The Location of the Oil Filter on a Fiat 500X

The location of the oil filter on the Fiat 500X is typical for the 1.4 Turbo petrol (MultiAir) and 1.6 Diesel MultiJet engines. It is located in the lower-central part of the engine, behind and slightly to the side of the transmission housing. It is completely enclosed and secured by a subframe, so you cannot simply access it from underneath: you need to remove the undertray, drain the oil from the sump to avoid being flooded with oil when unscrewing the filter. Then, loosen the bolts securing the subframe (it is not necessary to remove it completely) to create space to insert your hand and remove the filter, which will come off more easily with a strap wrench.
