How to Maintain the Battery of the Fiat Ducato X250

The Fiat Ducato has a battery that can be topped up with distilled water to extend its life. This is not a common feature: usually, batteries are sealed, and when they are depleted, they are disposed of at an authorised centre. However, these are designed to last longer and can be recharged. Here's how to do it. Access the battery compartment located under the driver's mat. Open the cover by unscrewing the four screws, then lift the battery cover. Disconnect the negative terminal, which has a quick release. Using a cross-head screwdriver, unscrew the screws holding the plate above the battery. Loosen the positive terminal clamp bolt and remove the entire plate, which includes various connections. Secure the plate with a wire to keep it raised. Using a 13 mm socket spanner, unscrew the nut from the plate. Use a coin to open the caps and check the levels. For it to be good, the elements must be covered by at least 1 cm of distilled water. If not, inject distilled water using a syringe and a tube. Then reassemble everything starting with the plate, screw in the two cross-head screws, lower the plate and fit it back near the positive terminal. Ensure it is secure and clamp the terminal. Reattach the negative terminal, replace the cap, and close the compartment under the driver's feet. Job done!
