In case of failure of the boot that covers the tie rod (or axial joint) of the steering box, it is essential to replace it promptly to prevent dirt and especially water from contaminating and damaging the rack; to replace the boot, lift the car, remove the front wheel and, even before unscrewing the nut fixing the head to the hub, loosen the counter nut that holds the head in position; at this point remove the head fixing nut and extract it from its seat, unscrew it from the tie rod by counting the number of turns and remove the old cap; insert and fasten the new one with the special clamps, screw the head with the same number of turns, fix it to the hub with the relative nut and tighten the counter nut.
