Replacing the Drum Brake Shoes on a Fiat Punto

Let's see how to change the drum brake shoes on a Fiat Punto. Lift the car and remove the wheel, ensuring the handbrake is released. Using a large screwdriver, remove the protective cap from the central nut and unscrew it with a 32 mm socket, allowing you to also remove the drum cover. Now, lift the retaining tabs of the shoes to remove them. Disconnect the handbrake lever support and pull it out. Clean the surfaces of dust with brake cleaner spray. When changing the shoes, it is advisable to also replace the brake cylinder, so disconnect the control pipe and unscrew the two screws securing it to the plate, install the new cylinder and reconnect the pipe. Clean again with the appropriate spray. Apply some copper grease to the contact surfaces of the shoes and install the new brake shoes, which can be found in pre-assembled kits. Refit the retaining clips for the shoes, reconnect the handbrake lever, clean with spray, and use sandpaper inside the drum before refitting it. Tighten the central nut with a torque wrench, replace its cover, and finally bleed the brake fluid. Repeat the process on the other wheel.
