Fiat Punto - Video tutorial

Model: Fiat Punto MK 2, 188 - Years 1999-2011
Part: Drums and shoes
Operation: Replacement of the drum brake shoes on the Fiat Punto.

Let's see how to change the brake shoes on the drum brakes of the Fiat Punto. Lift the car and remove the wheel, make sure the handbrake is released. Use a large screwdriver to remove the protective cap of the central nut and unscrew it with a 32mm socket wrench, then remove the drum cover. Now we can remove the retaining clips of the brake shoes in order to take them off. Disconnect the handbrake lever support and slide it out. Clean the surfaces from dust using brake cleaner spray. When changing the brake shoes, it is advisable to also replace the brake cylinder, so disconnect the control tube and unscrew the two screws that secure it to the plate, install the new cylinder and reconnect the tubing. Clean again with the appropriate spray. Apply some copper paste on the contact surfaces of the brake shoes and install the new brake pads that can be found in pre-assembled kits on the market. Reinstall the retaining clips of the brake shoes, reattach the handbrake lever, clean with the spray and use sandpaper inside the drum before reinstalling it. Tighten the central nut with a torque wrench and put back its protective cap, then bleed the brake fluid. Repeat the procedure with the other wheel.
