What does the oil light indicate on the Fiat 500?

When the oil light does not turn on on a Fiat 500 vehicle, as on other car models, it means that it is necessary to proceed with the replacement of the vehicle's motor oil. Only after that it will be possible to proceed with the reset of the light. But why does the oil light turn on? The oil light turns on when the motor oil in the vehicle is too low or the quantity is higher than required, due to a malfunction in the engine or oil pump.
