Necessary tools: socket wrench, screwdriver set, hammer, and good quality synthetic grease. Obtain a replacement bearing.

Lift the vehicle, secure it, and remove the wheel. Dismantle the entire brake assembly to free the shaft.

Remove the brake disc by unscrewing the bolts and taking it off. Remove the complete shock absorber. Take out the hub bolt and with a few well-placed strikes, extract the roller bearing from the hub. Clean thoroughly from old grease.

Correctly reposition the new steel bearing race, then place the new bearing inside after greasing it well. Use a piece of wood and tap with the hammer to ensure the bearing fits perfectly.

Spin the wheel by hand to check for any friction or abnormal play. Tighten the retaining screw on the hub nut. Refit the brake caliper and the wheel.

How to adjust the handbrake on the Smart Fortwo?

To adjust the handbrake on the Smart Fortwo, loosen the screws securing the left rear wheel so that it can be removed: after the wheel has been removed from its seat, loosen the screws securing the corresponding brake drum, locating the shoes and the handbrake mechanism. This can be adjusted by tightening or loosening the shoes to regulate the intensity of the handbrake; once the adjustment is complete, verify that the operation has been successfully finished.
