How to Change the Engine Air Filter on a Ford Ranger

To change the engine air filter on a Ford Ranger, turn off the engine, open the bonnet, and locate the air filter box in the engine compartment, connected to the large intake duct. Release the retaining clips that secure the airbox cover; if necessary, loosen the duct connection for more space. Lift the cover and remove the old filter element from its seat. Carefully remove any leaves, dust, and other debris from the bottom of the box, ensuring they do not enter the intake duct. Position the new filter in the same orientation as the previous one and check that the edge is evenly inserted into the housing. Replace the cover, secure all clips, and reconnect any removed duct. Finally, start the engine and verify that the airbox is properly closed.
