How to remove the damaged gear knob? Here’s how to remove it from above the operating shaft of the Ford Focus. Use a plastic lever to disconnect the leather gaiter frame, lifting it until it detaches from the knob. Hold the knob in your hands and rotate it left until it comes off the gear shaft (unscrew the knob). For reassembly, take the new knob and slide it onto the shaft in the centre console, securing it to the shaft; install the new leather gaiter with the clips over the centre console (if replacing the gaiter). Ensure all parts associated with the gear knob are correctly fitted (the numbers on the knob should be horizontal).
