Model: Ford Focus MK 1 - Years 1998-2004
Part: Drums and shoes
Operation: How to install or replace drums and shoes

If you have a Ford Focus and want to replace the drums and brake shoes this tutorial can help you. Place the car safely on a bridge and remove the rear wheel. With the help of a stonemason and a hammer, remove the fairing to protect the hub then, with a 30 mm pocket and a crowbar, unscrew and remove the nut that blocks the drum and then extract the latter. Use pliers to release the springs. Use a screwdriver to free the jaws. Always with pliers remove the clip that fixes them. Take some new shoes and fit them in the same way as the replaced ones, remembering to hook the springs. Clean the rust and dirt on the drum thoroughly with a metal brush. Grease the shoes and then install them as they were previously. Use the pliers to replace the retaining clip and re-attach the springs. Reassemble the drum, insert and tighten the hub nut with the 30 mm pocket; replace the front fairing also using a few taps with the hammer. Refit the wheel and carry out a small running-in by pressing the brake pedal with the car stationary.

Handbrake adjustment on Ford Ecosport

First remove the plastic profile at the base of the gear lever. To do this, slightly widen the side edges and carefully lift it to release it. There is no need to remove it completely, just move it forward to avoid bother. Now remove the plastic center console around the handbrake by first working from the rear to release it and lifting it until the brake lever passes. Also in this case it is not necessary to remove it completely but, paying attention to the connected cables, it can be stowed in front of the passenger seat. At this point we notice that at the base of the handbrake lever, on the front, we find a nut. By acting on it, with a 10 wrench, we can adjust the brake force, increasing it by turning the nut clockwise, or decreasing it by turning it counterclockwise. Once adjusted, the center console can be repositioned first, pressing lightly to engage it, and then the profile of the gearbox base.
