To replace the external door handle on a Ford Explorer, first remove the door panel. This can be done by loosening the screws located under the armrest trim on the panel.

Once removed, detach the inner door panel to access the actuator; this must be removed from its housing by loosening its bolts. Consequently, the external handle can be pulled out from the outside and replaced with a new one; finally, reassemble all the removed components.
