The timing belt is a very important component of the engine, as it transmits motion from the crankshaft to the camshaft, maintaining the timing of valve opening and closing relative to the position of the pistons. A timing belt failure while the engine is running can cause irreparable damage to the engine and, especially, very costly repairs. The manufacturer of this model recommends changing the timing belt every 124,000 miles or, if this mileage is not reached, every 8-10 years from the year of registration.
