How to Remove the Gearbox to Replace the Clutch on a Ford Fiesta

Replacing the clutch in your vehicle is possible: start by removing the air intake system. It is advisable to remove the battery, but only to gain a bit more space to manoeuvre. After disconnecting the terminals, remove the metal protective plate, a small metal cover, then you can take out the battery by disconnecting the terminals that go to the dashboard. Now remove the battery tray, which is connected to the engine with three large bolts and two side screws of 10 mm. Remove the lower plate and the intake pipe located on the side, which is only held by clips, then remove the cables, which requires a bit of force to execute. Carefully remove the switches and lift all the cables. Be cautious with any seals; either fix them or set them aside for reinstallation later, otherwise reassembling something without its O-ring may cause leaks or malfunctions. Remove the driver's side wheel and take off the protective cover that Ford installs on its vehicles to prevent damage from water, mud, stones, etc. Remove the front arm, spraying it first with a lubricant spray to avoid damage during the operation. Once the lower arm ball joint is removed, move it aside to avoid damaging the rubber. Remove the driveshaft, draining the fluid into a prepared container. Completely remove the driveshaft, then repeat everything on the other side. At this point, you can remove the four 15 mm bolts holding the gearbox in place, along with the two studs securing the gearbox from the rear. Now unscrew the upper bolts and remove the support. Also, remove the ground strap clip on the right side and take out the last two 15 mm bolts. At this point, you will need someone to help you lower the gearbox to the ground. Remove all the bolts from the pressure plate, take off the friction plate, and ensure that the pressure plate has not been damaged. Replace the friction plate and, if necessary, the pressure plate as well. Reassemble all the bolts. If you have a torque wrench, tighten the bolts to 29/31 Nm. Before reinstalling the gearbox, install the secondary cylinder, tightening the bolts well. Now close the gearbox, get help to reinsert it into its housing, and reassemble everything in reverse order, using the bolts and O-rings that you neatly set aside during disassembly.
