Once the starter motor is removed, check the brushes, the armature commutator, the gears, the stator magnets, and the solenoid. Many spare parts are also readily available in the aftermarket; during assembly, after thoroughly cleaning the various parts, grease the gears, clean the armature commutator of brush dust, install a new brush holder, and complete the assembly ensuring there is no excessive play between the armature shaft and the guide bush.

After assembly, it is recommended to perform a bench test using a battery before installing it in the vehicle.
