This guide shows how to replace the transmission oil of the Ford Explorer Mk5. The first step is to unscrew the filler cap of the transmission oil reservoir located under the engine air filter box. From underneath the vehicle, locate the transmission drain bolt, unscrew it, and let the lubricant drain into a disposal container. Re-screw the bolt and clean any oil residue. Pour the new lubricant through the unscrewed cap into the engine compartment. Before using the vehicle, engage all gears to circulate the oil completely. After a few minutes of driving, check for leaks from the drain bolt and tighten as necessary.
