An Empirical Way to Check if Your Air Conditioner Refrigerant is Low

The video shows a simple and quick trick to determine if the Freon level in your vehicle's air conditioning system is low. Under the hood, near the compressor, you will find two metal pipes entering the cabin. One small for the high-pressure gas line, and one large for the low-pressure gas line. Start the engine and set the air conditioning to maximum for a few minutes. The small pipe becomes extremely hot: do not touch it. Carefully touch the large pipe (the return line from the evaporator). If it is very cold, the refrigerant level is correct. If it is only cool or at room temperature, then the refrigerant is low and cannot adequately cool the evaporator: it could also be a broken thermostat, a clogged evaporator, or an inefficient compressor. As mentioned, this is an empirical method.
