This is useful for diagnosing ABS issues without immediately taking the car to a garage. To perform a continuity test, set the multimeter to Ohms, and connect the probes to the two pins of the ABS sensor. The value should be in the thousands of Ohms: significantly different values or "OL" (open circuit) indicate a faulty sensor. To perform a signal generation test, set the multimeter to DC Volts; keep the probes connected to the sensor and quickly pass a metal object in front of the sensor tip (where the magnet is located): the multimeter should show a small voltage each time the metal object passes. This test verifies the sensor but does not rule out issues with the tone ring or wiring.
