How to Manually Open a Capless Fuel Tank

Model: Jeep Cherokee KL, MK 5 - Years 2013-2023

On many modern vehicles, such as the Jeep Cherokee in the video, the fuel tank is equipped with a 'capless' system, without a screw cap. To open the system and add additives, you can use the funnel typically found in the onboard equipment, or in an emergency, you can try to manually open the valve. Observe the inside of the filler neck: you will notice three small plastic tabs. To open the metal valve, you need to press all three tabs simultaneously with your fingers. Hold them down until you hear the click that unlocks the valve. At this point, you can insert a funnel or the spout of the additive bottle. If you have the original funnel, the process is quicker, but this manual technique works just as well. After the operation, the valve will close automatically. Ensure you do not introduce sharp objects that could damage the mechanism.
