Replacing the Side Impact Bar on the Jeep Cherokee

Model: Jeep Cherokee XJ, MK 2 - Years 1984-2001

This video shows in detail, with verbal description, how to replace the side impact bar under the door of a Jeep Cherokee. First, remove the plastic scuff plates from the front and rear doors using a lever or flathead screwdriver. Next, unscrew the cover installed on the rear wing using a battery-powered screwdriver. At this point, cut the rusted bar to be replaced with an oxy-acetylene torch, removing any metallic debris from its seat. Finally, prepare the new bar on the bench, ensuring the size matches the old one, shaping and closing the ends with a welder, and finishing with an angle grinder. To complete the job, position the bar using a hydraulic jack and weld it in place.
