How to Change the Engine Oil in a Maserati Ghibli DIY

To change the oil on a Maserati Ghibli, work with the engine off and on a flat surface. If the car needs to be lifted, secure it with suitable axle stands or ramps and allow the oil to cool enough to avoid burns. Open the bonnet and unscrew the oil filler cap: this helps the oil drain more smoothly. Position a large container under the car, and if there is an undertray, remove it to access the sump. Loosen the drain plug and carefully remove it, allowing the oil to drain completely. When the flow has stopped, clean the seating, check the washer/gasket on the plug (replace if necessary), and screw the plug back in without forcing: the correct torque should be checked in the manual/workshop based on the engine and plug. Next, move on to the oil filter. Locate the filter housing and unscrew the filter (if it’s a cartridge type, unscrew the cover of the filter housing; if it’s a 'screw-on' filter, remove it from the fitting). Hold a rag underneath as residual oil may drip. Fit the new filter in the correct orientation, replace any O-rings/gaskets of the filter housing, and lightly lubricate the gasket with a thin layer of oil before installation, then tighten by hand or to the specified torque (depending on the type of filter). Refit the undertray if applicable, lower the car, and top up through the cap with new oil of the correct grade/specification for the Maserati Ghibli (quantity to be checked based on the engine). Start the engine for a few seconds, turn it off, wait a couple of minutes, and check for any leaks from the plug and filter. Finally, check the level with the dipstick/reading provided and bring the level to specification without exceeding the maximum.
