What happens when water enters a fuse box? The immediate danger is that of a short circuit. Water, especially if not demineralized, is an electrical conductor, and if it comes into contact with live terminals, fuses or wires, it creates an unexpected path for the electric current; the risk is therefore that of a fire: the heat can melt the plastic materials of the box and ignite the wiring; but the worst problem is the corrosion of the copper contacts and the pins of the connectors inside the box, and consequently, of the control units; in fact, we could experience strange and difficult electrical problems, very random and difficult to diagnose. The best thing to do if we realize that water has entered the fuse box is to disconnect the battery; do not start the car and dry the box with low pressure compressed air: it is a job that can even take a whole day. If we see signs of corrosion, we must clean with a specific spray and a soft brush.
