Common problems with Mercedes Sprinter

This video perfectly illustrates one of the most common problems with Mercedes Sprinter diesel engines: the EGR valves get clogged with carbon and soot, leading to the error code "EGR flow insufficient" and the engine light coming on. This happens if you mainly drive in the city, in short cycles and at low speeds. The solution is cleaning the EGR valve, but this is often only a temporary fix. As the mechanic in the video notes, it is a laborious job that requires disassembling several components: on a vehicle with 11,000 km, it is an early and annoying defect; consequently, there are also problems with the particulate filter and the AdBlue system. The Sprinter is also known for some electrical issues, such as faulty ABS/EPC sensors, while on heavier models or when fully loaded, wheel bearings can wear out prematurely. The mechanic in the video also complains about the position of the ECU, which is located in areas exposed to heat and weather elements, leading to premature failures of a very expensive component; it is rightly seen as a design flaw.
