Let's see how to install a shark fin antenna on a Mercedes A-Class W169: remove the original antenna by taking off the overhead light and base with the amplifier; cut the cable and prepare the new, smaller mount; isolate the signal from the body with a ring/grommet, essential to avoid "ground on negative" that degrades reception. Tighten the bolt well and reattach the overhead light. Having cut the original cable and connected the passive fin directly (just the stylus + coil), we may have excellent reception in urban areas but weak in hilly or mountainous regions. To check, see if there is a small circuit in the base or if it is a passive connector. Also, put a bit of black silicone around the hole on the roof side to prevent water from entering when it rains.
